My name is Mr. Naeem and I am the your Media Specialist/ Librarian. My goals in this position are...

• To help develop and improve literacy and a love for reading and learning.
• To help develop and improve hard and soft skills needed to be successful in an academic setting.
• Provide and safe, calm, and comfortable space for students read, relax, learn, and socialize in. 
• To update and grow our library's collection to be reflective of our students interest & lived experience.
• To support and provide students with resources aligned with their goals and dreams.

As I learn more about our students interest, goals, and the resources available to me, there will be more updates. Thank you Grizzlies.

Media Center Updates:

Over the last two years I've been able to genrefiy and alphabetize the library. The goal of this is to make things easier for students to find and empower them to explore things that they're familiar with while encouraging them to step outside of that comfort zone and trying something new.

• We have also moved from the East Middle School building to the Spencer Lane building and that came with a lot of upgrades to our library. 
• We now have book vending machines that students can earn tokens and receive a free book. The middle school was privileged enough to have two machines, one with graphic novels, comic books, & manga and the other with standard novels.
• We introduced Beanstack challenges that are school wide in year long along with shorter more focused challenges to encourage the students staff and families to read.
• We overhauled the "media" side of the media center by adding 3D holographic fans, arcade machines, Nintendo Switchs, race car simulator, VR headsets, and laptops to allow our students access and opportunities to explore technology.

Along with being your Media Specialist, I have stepped into a few more roles at YCMS

• Creating Event Flyers
• Football Operations Manager 
• Esports Coach
• Martial Arts Club Instructor
• "Chromebook Concierge"

Library Reminders:

• Book Check-Outs
  • Bring your SCHOOL ID or PBIS Rewards Card to make check out easier.
    • (If you do not have those cards; your student ID # or your last name can be used to check out books.)
• Book Returns
  • Books are due back (need to be returned or renewed) every 2 weeks (14 Days).
  • Books can be returned at any time that your teacher gives you permission to come to the Media Center Or to the Book Return Drop Box.
• When looking for books - Please put them back on the shelves where you got them; spine facing outward
• With permission from your teacher, you may do class work, read and relax, take a break, play a board or card game, use the courtyard.
• The media center is closed on WEDNESDAYS.
